I’m known for capturing those didn’t-know-you-were-there shots and busting a move on the dance floor just to get those perfect candids. I also work with you to ensure we incorporate your style and story into your engagement and wedding photos!
Maddy and Colby’s Misty Clover Farm wedding in Port Townsend was colorful, whimsical, wonderfully quirky, and so much fun to photograph. The venue’s towering trees, ferns, meadow, forest pathways, and outdoor amphitheater gave us so many gorgeous places to explore throughout the day.
They began the morning in separate suites at 7 Cedars Hotel before traveling to the farm with their wedding parties. Maddy had refreshed her rainbow hair for the wedding, and it matched the energy of the entire celebration perfectly. Her bridesmaids wore dresses in hot pink, light pink, green, blue, butter yellow, orange, and lavender, while Colby’s party wore different shades of brown. Against the dark green forest, all that color looked incredible.
Maddy and Colby shared their first look on the venue’s forest platform, with Juniper joining them in a tiny tutu. Maddy could not stop dancing in her dress, and the two of them looked so happy just running around together beneath the trees. A few rounds of rain moved through during the day, but the clouds only made the forest feel greener and more dramatic.
Their outdoor ceremony took place in Misty Clover Farm’s amphitheater. One of my favorite photographs from the day is Juniper waiting at the top and turning around at exactly the right moment to watch Maddy walk toward the ceremony. Maddy smiled through the entire thing while she and Colby exchanged beautiful vows in front of their families and friends.
The couple described their theme as a vintage fairy garden with colorful, whimsical cocktail attire, and they committed to every detail. Swans appeared on Maddy’s nails, earrings, and reception decor. Guests could choose rainbow glasses for their tables, and instead of signing a traditional guest book, they were encouraged to leave drunk voicemails on a telephone. Their cake was topped with two tiny raccoons, and Maddy even found a slug in the forest and happily carried it around on her finger.
Later, Maddy surprised everyone with a second dress covered in lace, tassels, and dramatic sleeves. She wanted to run away and be whimsical in the field, so that is exactly what we did. She and Colby wandered through the meadow, played with Juniper, and carried lanterns as the evening light moved across the farm. The photograph of them walking away together, with Maddy’s dress trailing behind her and the lanterns glowing, feels like a scene from a strange and beautiful fairy tale.
The reception brought even more energy. Orion Entertainment kept the dance floor moving beneath the disco ball, while Miss Monday Mourning hosted the evening and performed a full drag show during open dancing. The room was loud, joyful, colorful, and completely packed with people ready to celebrate.
Maddy and Colby had been together for seven years before becoming engaged. They somehow missed each other throughout high school, despite having several mutual connections, and eventually met after returning home from college for Easter weekend. After months of talking, they went on their first date to play mini golf and immediately hit it off. Colby later proposed on Christmas Eve by placing a heart-shaped card around Juniper’s neck for Maddy to find. They love drag shows, cooking, brunching, exploring Olympia and Seattle, and spending time with their dogs. Next, they are looking forward to a honeymoon in Greece and eventually finding a home with enough land for a hobby farm.
Maddy and Colby, thank you for inviting me into such a joyful, high-energy wedding day. I loved every swan, fern, lantern, rainbow detail, raccoon, puppy, and unexpected forest creature.
