I’m known for capturing those didn’t-know-you-were-there shots and busting a move on the dance floor just to get those perfect candids. I also work with you to ensure we incorporate your style and story into your engagement and wedding photos!
Listen, I get it, booking a DJ or a live band for your wedding can get very expensive and might be at times, hard to coordinate what music you’d like. Well today on the Banter, we’re chatting all about wedding day music!
First up, let’s talk about DJ’s! If you are still deciding on the best DJ, I highly recommend either taking the day to go to your local wedding show to check out all the local vendors, or visiting weddingwire.com and searching online. Most of the time at bridal shows, they are actually playing their playlists, and you can talk to the DJ to see if you guys would get along, AND bridal shows mean DISCOUNTS! Lots of vendors have raffles and specials if you book with them on the spot, or put in a deposit. Most of these shows are during the winter to prepare for the next wedding season, but just google shows in your area or check local convention center schedules.
Thinking of having a live band? I always say YES! But keep in mind, it might be more expensive. Most bands provide a sound rider (a list of all equipment the venue needs to provide like extension cords, mic stands, etc.) Just keep in mind that bands come with some extra baggage! After being in the music industry for 6 years, I highly recommend having the band get in touch with the venue to chat about set up and what equipment is needed. If anything, ask the band for the sound rider and provide it to the venue to coordinate. Also for the record, live bands are AWESOME! But also think of some background music in case the band need to take a break 🙂
Now, if a band and a DJ are too expensive- I have the perfect solution. My husband and I for our wedding, didn’t want to pay for a DJ or a band (we just wanted a simple wedding), we decided to put together our own playlist on Spotify! Yes, you heard me right! The months leading up to our wedding, we thought of every song we love and fun songs people would like to hear (of course with some Michael Jackson) and made our own wedding day playlist. Spotify does have commercials, buuuuuuuut if you sign up for the 30-day free trial, like the week of your wedding, you have NO commercials for free. So the only time put into your wedding music is making the playlist. Most songs are on Spotify these days, except for Taylor Swift, so you can find all the songs your heart desires!
So when you’re thinking about your wedding day music, keep these things in mind! Woohoo!
Hope you enjoyed this week’s SJ’s Bridal Banter and tune in next week for another dose of banters!
