Colorful Artist Point Elopement at Mount Baker

Danielle and Ryan’s Artist Point elopement was years in the making, and Mount Baker gave them one seriously gorgeous day to finally make it official.

I first photographed these two for their engagement session about two years ago, so getting to come back and document their elopement felt extra special. Their day started at a cozy cabin near Mount Baker, where they got ready with their sisters and spent some time with their puppy, Paisley. Paisley gets a little anxious on the mountain, so she stayed behind for the bigger adventure, but not before getting in some portraits with Danielle and Ryan among the ferns.

Danielle and Ryan had a traditional first look at the cabin before heading toward Heather Meadows for their ceremony. Wildfire smoke from Washington and Canada had moved into the area shortly before their wedding, but the wind cleared so much of it just in time. What remained created a soft haze throughout the mountains and some of the most incredible texture and color in the sky.

After their ceremony, we stopped at Picture Lake for portraits with their sisters and officiant before heading farther into the mountains. Danielle’s veil was flying everywhere in the wind, which made for some of my favorite photographs of the day.

We eventually hiked up to Huntoon Point, where Danielle and Ryan exchanged private vows with Mount Baker behind them. As the evening continued, the entire landscape started glowing. Pink and orange alpenglow spread across Mount Shuksan while we wandered around the pond, brought out the lanterns, and soaked in every last bit of light.

Then came one of those little moments that made the whole evening even better. Danielle and Ryan popped a bottle of rosé, and the color in their glasses matched the pink alpenglow on the mountain almost perfectly. When they held the glasses up, the mountain reflected right through them. It was such a fun detail and one of my favorite creative shots from their elopement.

Their story has always had a little bit of Mount Baker woven into it. Danielle and Ryan originally met at a mutual friend’s wedding in 2022 and spent their first year dating long distance while Ryan finished his doctorate in Colorado. In January 2024, Ryan proposed during a freezing cabin weekend near Mount Baker after their outdoor plans were replaced with Netflix, time by the fire, and the hot tub.

So ending their wedding day back at another Mount Baker cabin felt pretty perfect. They celebrated with steamy hot tub portraits, cake, carne asada burritos, and the perfect group of people who had shared the adventure with them.

Danielle and Ryan love hiking, paddleboarding, traveling, walking with Paisley, and finding a way to make even ordinary days fun. Their Artist Point elopement felt exactly like them: adventurous, hilarious, relaxed, and full of so many beautiful little moments.
