A Year in Review: 2021
WOW! WHAT A YEAR! Is anyone else wondering where 2021 went? haha This year has been beyond amazing and also crazy at the same time, am I right? 2021 brought all the postponed weddings from 2020 along with 2021 brides and this made for one super busy, filled with travel, and power packed year. With over 50 weddings, this year was beyond incredible. Every couple, every wedding, every first look, each was beautiful and memorable. I’ve never had such a busy wedding season that was so worth the travel and endless late night editing sessions.
2021 took me all over Washington and into Oregon for weddings, sessions, and mini vacations. My husband and I bought our first house this year and are loving our little dream home. Ellie is 2 now and super freaken’ adorable- we love her to pieces!! So this year has been amazing and just filled overall. I drove over 16,000 miles for all these beautiful weddings and sessions, had to get new tires for my car, but it’s all totally worth it.
Some highlights of my year:
- This was actually my first 6-figure earning year as a professional wedding photographer! It feels really strange but also incredible that I get to document people’s most special events all year and make a living for my family at it!
- We bought our house so that’s definitely a personal highlight for sure!
- I learned more about this wedding industry and made some amazing friends this year!
- I finally watched Twilight all the way through for the first time ever haha Not as proud of that one lol
- Captured over 50 gorgeous weddings and elopements. My busiest year yet!
This year has also come with some education that I can’t wait to explore more in the coming year like using more cinematic approaches to documenting a wedding day story and not just following along ‘the wedding script’ (what I like to call it). Just being able to provide more subtext in photos, more depth, playing with light more to portray emotion and even sound, all these things, I plan to incorporate more into my work. Along with composition and watching out for those horizon lines haha I plan to basically marry those two concepts together for 2022. Heck yes!!
Anyway!! I just also wanted to say a huge congratulations to all the amazing couples this past year that have gotten married, made this huge commitment to each other, and are starting their new married lives together. All the stories I’ve had the honor and pleasure of capturing this year are all in my memory and it was so incredible to be there to witness everything for you all. My heart is so beyond full after each wedding day and then getting to re-live your day on my editing screen is the biggest honor of my life. Seriously. You all matter to me and I can’t imagine my life without being a photographer.
Okay, before I get all teary-eyed, congratulations to all the newlyweds celebrating their first Christmas together, and cheers to the new year of 2022!!
