I’m known for capturing those didn’t-know-you-were-there shots and busting a move on the dance floor just to get those perfect candids. I also work with you to ensure we incorporate your style and story into your engagement and wedding photos!
A rainy Mt. Rainier engagement session is about as Pacific Northwest as it gets, and Kara and Lena fully embraced every minute of it.
These two traveled all the way from Virginia to Washington for a friend’s wedding, but they had another exciting reason for making the trip: they had recently gotten engaged and wanted engagement photos at one of the most beautiful places in the Pacific Northwest.
Mt. Rainier had other plans when it came to the weather.
Instead of mountain views and sunshine, we were greeted with a giant rainstorm. Thankfully, Kara and Lena were completely up for the adventure. Rather than letting the weather change the mood of the day, they leaned into it, laughed through it, and made the most of every moment.
We explored the Longmire area of Mt. Rainier National Park, stopping at the Longmire Suspension Bridge, wandering around the historic cabins and lodge, and making our way through the Trail of Shadows. The forest felt especially magical in the rain, with mist hanging between the trees and every shade of green looking even more vibrant.
One of my favorite things about this session was getting to watch how naturally these two fit together. The way they look at each other, the way they make each other laugh, and the way they seem completely at ease together made photographing them effortless. Even while getting soaked by the rain, they never stopped smiling.
There were moments when umbrellas were helpful, and there were plenty of moments when they simply decided to forget about staying dry and continue exploring. Some of my favorite images from the session came from those moments when they embraced the weather and were just loving it together.
The rain also led to one of the funniest conversations of the day. Between layers of rain gear and hoods, hearing each other became a challenge. Lena came up with a brilliant invention: raincoats with zippered ear holes so photographers can actually hear conversations during storms.
What could have been a challenging weather day turned into one of the most memorable engagement sessions. Kara and Lena brought so much joy, warmth, and fun to every part of the experience, and spending the afternoon exploring Mt. Rainier with them was an absolute blast.
I only wish Virginia wasn’t quite so far away.
