Smith Rock Adventure Session

Ashley and Paul brought so much freedom, trust, and adventure into this Smith Rock Adventure Session in Bend, Oregon.
These two met while rock climbing at their local gym, and after spending time with them out in Bend, it’s impossible not to immediately see how much they belong in this environment. The way they move together feels effortless, comfortable, and adventurous in the most natural way.
We started wandering around the park in their dressier outfits, stopping at overlooks and taking in the insane scenery around us. Every direction somehow looked prettier than the last. The warm tones in the cliffs, the river winding through the canyon, the open sky, it all felt cinematic in the best way.
Then eventually, the climbing gear came out.
Ashley shared that she feels the most like herself when she’s outside climbing, hair up, completely free, and honestly, that energy came through in every single part of this session. Watching these two together while climbing was honestly mesmerizing. The communication, the trust, the quiet confidence they have together, it was such a cool thing to witness firsthand.
And one of my favorite little details? Before every climb, they always kiss first. Every single time.
It’s such a simple thing, but those little rituals always end up being the moments that tell the story best.
Getting to photograph them climbing was such a fun shift from the more traditional portraits earlier in the session. It made the entire experience feel so personal to them. It genuinely felt like documenting part of their real life together, and those are always the best kinds of sessions.
This whole trip to Bend was a huge adventure for me too. A 6 hour drive each way, new places to explore, and a different landscape, but it was so worth it.
I already can’t wait for the next adventure with these two.
