I’m known for capturing those didn’t-know-you-were-there shots and busting a move on the dance floor just to get those perfect candids. I also work with you to ensure we incorporate your style and story into your engagement and wedding photos!
Avery and Johnny’s Grandview Estate wedding in Enumclaw, Washington started with pouring rain and ended with sunshine, rainbows, blue skies, and some seriously gorgeous storm clouds.
Grandview Estate is known for its view of Mount Rainier right behind the ceremony space, but Rainier stayed completely socked in for their wedding day. Instead, the changing weather gave us everything from dramatic clouds to blue skies and some incredibly special moments along the way.
After getting ready, Avery and Johnny shared an emotional first look before heading to the front steps of the estate for private vows. Avery wanted this part of the day to feel whimsical, and the front of the house was such a beautiful setting for it. Johnny barely made it through his vows without crying, which turned out to be a pretty good preview of the rest of the day. It was so sweet watching how emotional he was every time he looked at Avery.
We finished portraits, wedding party photos, and family photos while the clouds were still hanging over the property. Then, almost perfectly on cue, the rain cleared and the sun came out just in time for their outdoor ceremony.
At the beginning of the ceremony, clouds that looked like angel wings appeared above the ceremony space. Later, a double rainbow showed up in front of the spot where Mount Rainier would normally be visible. When I pointed it out to Avery, she immediately said, “That’s my mom looking down on us.” Her mom had passed away, which made both the angel wing clouds and the rainbow feel especially meaningful and perfect.
Avery also had a surprise waiting for Johnny during the ceremony. He thought he was receiving a simple gold wedding band, but she surprised him with a gold band featuring little diamonds that matched her own wedding band. His reaction when he realized what she had done was priceless.
The reception tent was filled with vintage-inspired lace, soft pink accents, and sweet details throughout. Guests celebrated with tacos and burritos from Azteca, a photo booth from The Shutter Bus Co., toasts, and plenty of dancing. Avery and Johnny also wanted their cake cutting to be a private moment between the two of them instead of a formal announced reception event, and it was super cute.
By the end of the evening, the storm clouds had shifted into gorgeous pink skies. There was a bouquet toss followed by a beer toss, where the guys jumped to catch a beer and the winner had to chug it, which was definitely a first for me. Then everyone headed into the barn to finish the celebration on the dance floor.
Rain, sunshine, angel wing clouds, a double rainbow, pink skies, private vows, a surprise wedding ring, and a whole lot of happy tears made Avery and Johnny’s Grandview Estate wedding such a beautiful day to photograph.
