Thornewood Castle Wedding

Sara and Dakota’s Thornewood Castle wedding in Lakewood, Washington was three years in the making, and getting to photograph these two again in such an enchanting place made the wait so worth it.
Sara and Dakota originally met through Facebook after realizing they had mutual friends and a shared love for anime. Five months later, they were engaged, but they knew they wanted to take their time planning and saving for the wedding they really wanted. Three years later, they finally got their castle wedding.
Thornewood Castle could not have fit these two better. It is moody, dramatic, a little haunted, and filled with beautiful old rooms and architecture everywhere you turn. Dakota got ready with his guys inside the stately library while Sara got ready upstairs in the bridal suite. Sara is basically a little sunbeam fairy who loves butterflies and whimsical things, and Dakota has this incredibly sweet protector energy with her. They are just so freaking cute together.
They decided to save their first look for the ceremony. Sara came down the castle staircase toward her dad before both of her parents walked her down the aisle to Dakota. Their ceremony took place outside in the garden, with Dakota’s grandpa officiating and their grandmas taking on flower girl duty. Their 1920s-inspired wedding style fit the castle perfectly, especially with the guys dressed in Peaky Blinders-inspired attire.
After the ceremony, we headed inside to sign all the official paperwork before taking wedding party, family, and newlywed portraits around the estate.
And then sunset freaking SHOWED UP.
The golden light around Thornewood Castle was absolutely incredible. We had just enough time to wander around the estate and take advantage of it before heading back inside for dinner and the rest of the celebration.
The reception included some really beautiful toasts, including a sentimental poem written by Dakota’s mom. They also opened the microphone for friends and family to get up and share stories about the two of them, which was so great. After dinner came cake, their first dance, more dancing, and finally a ribbon-wand sendoff to close out the night.
After waiting three years for this day, Sara and Dakota finally got to celebrate exactly where they had dreamed of celebrating. Castle rooms, garden vows, an unreal sunset, and a whole lot of love made their Thornewood Castle wedding one hell of a beautiful day.
